Check you have your Isle of Wight Passport and embark on an adventure. Beware the shores of Bembridge this week, locals say the Werewolf of Bembridge emerges when the moon is full... not to scare you, but because he’s realised he’s run out of milk for his tea. If you’ve ever tried to make a decent cuppa without milk, you’ll understand why he howls.

Adding to his woes are the fairies of St Helens. Now, you might picture delicate little things flitting about on sparkly wings. Not here. These fairies are massive, think full-time gym memberships, protein shakes, and biceps you could use as a landing strip for dragonflies. The werewolves are technically not scared of them, but they do cross the street if they see one coming.
Back in the old days, the werewolf fondly remembers when “fairy cakes” were made from actual fairies. A gentler time, before everyone went on high-protein diets and started bench pressing chimaera for fun. Nowadays, he sticks to Victoria sponge, less dangerous.
Howl-worthy hidden gems
When you’re not tracking down moon-mad werewolves, Bembridge offers plenty of charm:
Bembridge Windmill: A lovingly restored 1700s National Trust treasure. Climb up, see the gears, and imagine a werewolf getting stuck in the sails.
Priory Woods & Bay: Ancient woodland with Neanderthal history, plus a seasonal oyster bar, if you can dodge the mermaids on lunch break.
Brading Marshes RSPB: Birdwatching heaven, but keep an eye out for the odd griffin who pops in “just to mingle”.
Bembridge Fort & Culver Downs: Perfect cliff-top walks and military history, but watch the horizon for dragons pretending to be seagulls.
Forelands & Crab & Lobster Inn: Rocky beach, fossil hunting, and great seafood. Ideal spot to plan your next mythical creature encounter.
