Isle of Wight Follies – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are Isle of Wight Follies?
Isle of Wight Follies is an island-wide storytelling adventure. Part treasure hunt, part mythological quest, part local tourism boost, it's a gamified way to explore the Isle of Wight, discover curious creatures, and visit real businesses woven into the game world. It’s imagination meets exploration.
How accessible are the Follies?
"Accessibility" means different things; we support as many as we can:
-
Physical access: Some locations are woodland trails or coastal paths; others are flat, central, and parking-friendly. You choose your route.
-
Is the Follies suitable for wheelchair users?
Some locations are not fully accessible due to terrain, but many are flat, paved, and close to parking. In time, there will be accessibility pointers in the Quest Log and website, but feedback from Questers helps us with this. -
Neurodivergent & sensory-friendly play: Audio lore, humorous visuals, and flexible engagement levels — from immersive quests to passive home play.
-
Quest Log accessibility: Includes QR codes to content, plus space to draw, colour, log notes, or stick in photos. Great for solo or group exploration.
-
Financial accessibility: The Week Pass is just £3.50. The book is free on Kindle Unlimited. Many quests and content areas are free, and free time can be earned by making contributions.
-
Multiple media formats: Island News comes in print-style text and video narration, allowing both readers and listeners to engage.

How Islanders can earn extra time on their pass
You don’t need gold coins or enchanted relics, just a little imagination and community spirit.
Islanders can extend their pass by helping shape the adventure. Here’s how:

Feedback Makes Folklore
Share your thoughts on locations, access, or play experience. Your insights help us improve, and earn you bonus time.

Burst into Story
Create a short video, reel, or social post about your Follies experience. Tag us, and we’ll reward your creativity with extra quest time.

Step into the Myth
Got a story idea, creature sighting, or Island News contribution?
Send it in. If we use it, your pass gets a magical top-up.
Every action adds to the world and earns you more time to play.
The more you put in, the richer the tale becomes.
Can schools, groups, or care homes take part?
Definitely.
Follies is group-friendly, and the Quest Log works brilliantly as a shared creative resource. Great for:
-
Educational field trips
-
Residential care outings
-
Youth clubs and guided walks
What age is it for?
All ages.
Kids love the creatures and activities. Adults enjoy the satire, lore, and island-wide storytelling. You can play solo, with family, or in groups.

Is this also a marketing service for businesses?
Yes. But not in the usual way.
Follies flips the script: players actively seek out your business to complete story-based quests. It’s interactive, playful, affordable marketing that works in the real (mythical lore) world. Follies supports local businesses, including those harder-to-reach places; in fact, they are a true delight for Questers.
What do businesses get?
Participating businesses:
-
Full business listing with all the seo wizardry
-
Become storyline destinations.
-
Give out small “evidence trinkets” (optional).
-
Can create very short pieces of content (great for immersion).
-
They are featured in Island News, on maps, and within creature quests.
-
Join a shared, island-wide marketing engine that helps visitors find them.
